About Us: Highend Magazine, presented by Gnomon School of Visual Effects, is a co-production of Gnomon, the premiere training center for highend digital production tools and techniques, and Highend Network, publisher of the on-line communities http://www.highend3d.com and http://www.highend2d.com. The magazine focuses on digital production, and reflecs the myriad of tools which the high-end industries utilize. Highend Magazine covers tools such as Maya, XSI, Houdini, Shake, RenderMan and MentalRay. Through feature articles focused on production case-studies, software specific tutorials and hardware reviews the editorial content will present unbiased views of these production tools. Each issue will also feature galleries highlighting some of the best work being done by individuals -- professional or student ­ and studios. From the Editors: Welcome to Highend Magazine presented by Gnomon School of Visual Effects. We would like to introduce you to a new direction for a high-end magazine dedicated to professional artists. As many of you may know, the idea of Highend Magazine has been around for years. The brainchild of Will McCullough, creator of Highend3d.com, it started with a call from Will to Alex Alvarez and ended up as meeting in 2000, at Gnomon, with a room full of industry professionals. The concept: take what Highend3d.com lacks, add what knowledge Gnomon instructors have, and build a magazine dedicated to industry professionals. Almost 3 years later we have done it. Our inspirations include cinefex magazine, wired, inc, and other unique, targeted publications. For those of you that remember the old Alias Assist, that as well. For features we will take you behind the scenes on well-known productions. We will focus on application specific problems, solutions, tips & tricks, so not only will you get insight on how the production was done, but you will learn "how to" using specific applications. In each issue you will also find beautiful high-resolution print images of inspirational work. What has ended up a magazine directed by 3 industry professionals and artists, Will McCullough, Alex Alvarez, and Darrin Krumweide, we feel we have a unique understanding of what makes a cool magazine. Our goal with Highend Magazine is to educate, entertain, reveal, inform and inspire. We have set out to do this not for money, not for marketing, not because of any of us have extra time to kill - but simply for the love of creation of digital art, visual effects, and a love for our industry. Just like Highend3d.com, the community dictates what we cover. We will be flexible, we will listen, we will learn, and we will continue to try to create a magazine that fits YOUR needs.
